Hi! I'm fine! Just kinda swamped!

I do VERY MUCH apologize for being so unavailable in this last week or so! I'm fine. I've been overtired and sleeping a lot, plus working w/ Cait and I'm trying to work on the sequel to Wesley the Owl...I often come to Colorado to write, so I do get swept up. I sure didn't mean to worry you! And please know that I'm very serious about and committed to the BOA and hope my writing can help the cause, too.

I will be back in LA on the 27th, speaking at Border Books in Palos Verdes and signinig books! I'm really lookoing forward to that. I'll also be reunited w/ my dog, Fiona, on the same day. It will be a great day!

I hope some of you can make it! It should be announced on the Wesley the Owl facebook site. My new publicist, Keith, is helping me get the word out about some things, like this event on June 27 at 2:00 at the Borders in palos verdes.

I hope you're all doing well! Hang in there and don't lose faith!

Love,
Stacey

Good to hear you are otherwise well, if tired and needing rest.

Take care.

Stacey, did you see the improvements Carlos made to the owlbox(Big Platform, Insulation)It's on Mollys blog at wordpress. Interesting how he's done everything you suggested. Still mad about how you were kicked out of the chat by the control freak moderators. Hope all is well with your health and your work with the Alliance.

Thanks for keeping in touch. I just finished reading Wesley the Barn Owl for the second time. My husband had given it to me for Xmas in 2008. My first reading was without any knowledge of a BO at all, had barely even seen any pictures of one. This time through followed hours of watching the beloved owls at the M&M site as well as other BO cams, blogs, and then joining the SOABOA yahoo group. I was filled with such emotion this time through the book; I was now able to picture Wes in my mind and it made him even more adorable to me, if that is possible. I also have so much more appreciation for the effort and sacrifice you contributed to share your amazing story. Thank you.
I am committed to working for the safety and well being of barn owls in man-made nest boxes for as long as it takes. BTW, a new BO clutch is hatching over at the Audubon Starr Ranch.

Yesterday, my granddaughter and I heard Stacey O’Brien talk about her life with Wesley, her beloved barn owl. We had a great time! The audience was enthralled: Stacey was articulate, funny and bright, just as we’ve come to know her in her book. What set her talk apart, however, was her ease in demonstrating what she had described in print. No, Stacey didn’t fly around Border’s and pounce on things, but she gave quite a credible illustration of Wesley’s behavior and personality. She imitated his vocalizations, chirps and hisses, stretched out owl “wings,” cradled and groomed an imaginary Wesley. She showed us how she pretended to eat a mouse (honesty goes only so far in relationships), how Wesley appeared to be sulking when he felt humiliation, how he seemed to be telling her about his “day” upon her return home, and much more. Stacey’s talk was fascinating, informative and heartwarming. It was a hoot! (Couldn't resist!)
Someone in the audience asked Stacey if she would record her presentation. This is a great idea. Stacey is a natural and engaging storyteller who makes science and owl biology interesting (and tastefully discrete) to all ages. Wesley, the love of her life, was also the love of countless others who have been touched by Stacey’s great dedication and commitment, not to mention her amazing ability to have a 20-year relationship with an owl! A video presentation would give people around the world the chance to see and hear this intelligent, intuitive, sensitive, spiritual and spirited biologist describe in word and gesture what science can do when it is practiced with both heart and humility.
Thank you, Stacey, for sharing with us an amazing experience that most of us will never have in such a delightful way. It was wonderfully clear why Wesley loved you all those years.

I posted this message also on the Stacey O'Brien American Barn Owl Alliance Yahoo Group site. A bill to ban two deadly agents that indiscriminately harm and kill wildlife, pets and people was introduced to congress on June 30. We need to support this effort which effects our precious barn owls. Go to the this link to learn more, sign petitions, and write letters.

Looking forward to hearing all is well with you, Stacey.

Stacey,

My son Joseph, 11, is a HUGE fan! He has read your book 3 times and has told Wesley's story to anyone who will listen. Joseph is quite passionate about owls and we have visited all the zoos around us in search of them. He would love to do something that would help owls! Thank you so much for writing your story...You and Wesley have made an incredible impact on my son's life!
