Brazilian and Spanish speaking readers!

I just got a very sweet comment from a Brazilian reader. If the rest of you don't mind, I would like to tell those who speak Brazilian Portuguese, or who speak Spanish that they can write comments to me in those languages and I will understand. I am reading the Brazilian version of the book myself just for practice and to see how it was translated, and I would love to hear from those of you who write in Portuguese and/or Spanish if the English is your second language. I know how difficult it is to try to write in a second language!

I'm so excited that Wesley the Owl has been translated into so many languages and is in so many countries now! I never dreamed that would happen!

I wish there had been a way for Wesley to know how much his life and his ways have touched other people. If he did have a way to know, I don't think he would have been surprised. He was pretty confident about himself and who he was, in his Owl way. ;-)

Hello There, I would really like to buy this book for a friend who is French speaking. Is it available in French? And if so, where can I buy it?
Thanks,

Hi Stacey,

I can't express how much joy you gifted me with in the last two weeks as I read Wesley the Owl. This story really needed to be written! Not only is it a great story by itself, you write with such humor and detailed description that there was not one page of the book that bored me. I felt like I was there with you through the whole experience.

I grew up on a (very) small farm and enjoyed the presence of animals around me throughout my childhood, so I really felt touched by the relationship you had with Wesley and maybe something even more moving - the relationship Wesley had with you. The scene of him opening up his wings to hug you toward the end of the book just keeps repeating over and over in my mind. I continue to be amazed by the intelligence and emotional intelligence of animals.

I know it takes courage to write a memoir. I am working on my own (and found myself being encouraged by the story of your process), so I thank you for having the courage to share the story because it has blessed me (and I know, many others) deeply!

Sincerely,

Melissa King

Hi Stacey, I love all the animals!! I go to write in portuguese! I dont' speak english, alone italian. I lived in Italy to 8 months.

Obrigada!
Rose Leal /Brazil

Well, this has nothing to do with the blog topic, but I saw no other way of contacting you.
Welcome to Colorado, if you've made it here by now. I've lived here all of my life. I grew up in the foothills just west of Boulder. Oddly, I only remember seeing an owl once. I think I must not have noticed them, since they must have been around.
I just finished 'Wesley the Owl'. Its excellent. Thanks so much for writing it, especially since its so hard after a bird friend has died. Its good to know that owls are very intelligent. It seems that most 'common knowledge' about birds is turning out to be false.
Also, it was great to read about your close relationship with your bird. I have two conures who I am very close to. I really think of them as bird beings rather than a lesser creature as most people seem to. Their intelligence is amazing; much more than I ever expected when I first got them.
Its nice to know that there are communities like the biology department you worked at, where people are interested in animals, birds, and bugs. That's probably what I should have gone into rather than music and computers.

Dear Stacey,

I just spent the past weekend utterly engrossed by your story. It was both fascinating and beautifully touching. In fact, it moved me so much that I was bawling by the end. I have never connected with a book in this way, so thank you very much for sharing your story. I'll never forget it.
