It's ...I thing this video is quite instructive. It's not so much about branching itself, but what happens if a adolescent owl happens to fall, but can climb up the tree again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nymPKvygMPYW.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00991677087142609539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2389421550592866269.post-7386401627380564142010-06-01T11:43:18.740-07:002010-06-01T11:43:18.740-07:00I have some photos of branching great horned owls ...I have some photos of branching great horned owls (as well as lots of photos of branching Cooper's hawks, but those probably wouldn't be useful to you.) Let me go back and look through my photos - I took shots of one of the older owlet's early branching attemps.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2389421550592866269.post-18865056374340629072010-06-01T04:30:09.312-07:002010-06-01T04:30:09.312-07:00Oh Charlotte, I sure hope you can do this before i...Oh Charlotte, I sure hope you can do this before it's too late! What a boon it would be to have those pictures!

I also got some pics of baby great horned owls branching from a guy I met at a Scottish singing session in Boulder! As I walked up the driveway, I noticed a beautiful bird in his tree and mentioned it. I'd never even met him before. He then said, "Oh you should see my pictures of some branching Great Horned Owl babies I took". He is emailing them to me. What a great "coincidence"!
-StaceyStacey O'Brienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03821047137548565006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2389421550592866269.post-9598014732511818822010-05-29T12:48:11.898-07:002010-05-29T12:48:11.898-07:00I'm itching to get back to town for this very ...I'm itching to get back to town for this very reason!! Now that our photographer friend, John, revealed some of the minimally invasive tricks of nighttime photograpy last week, I plan to get back there next week with the right tools and a video cam. These owlets are probably all flying now but they do spend TONS of time on "their" old live oak, begging throughout the night. If we can catch them early out of their hole in the tree up high, they must do some good stretching and flapping. I am imagining that mom and dad may have another clutch to follow this one and we WILL be sure to get tuned in early for that show..Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00832374626156409741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2389421550592866269.post-15625005631303510192010-05-29T12:12:29.948-07:002010-05-29T12:12:29.948-07:00http://www.bsc-eoc.org/research/speciesatrisk/bnow...http://www.bsc-eoc.org/research/speciesatrisk/bnow/index.jsp?targetpg=bnownestboxplans&lang=EN

that's the link to the ones for Ontario--sadly, we only have 4 barn owl pairs in the last survey. But, I'm quite certain that any of the information that the alliance gets will help us too.darienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09616890857046418510noreply@blogger.com
